Gordon is a bustling and vibrant suburb in the Upper North Shore which is comparitively small compared to its neighbouring suburbs. It serves as the administrative centre for the local government (Ku-ring-gai council) and offers residents and visitors a vast array of shopping and restaurant options, predominantly on or around the Pacific highway. Named after Sir James Willoughby Gordon, the area is mainly comprised of Period, 50s and High rise dwellings. It attracts residents for a variety of reasons, including its convenience to transport and amenities and the large number of parks and green space which take up 17% of the total area.
Transport
- Gordon train station - Northern and Western lines
- Gordon bus stop provides routes to St Ives, West Pymble, Mona Vale/Warriewood and Macquarie University, as well as access to the city and Chatswood via the 560, 575 and 292.
- Located on the Pacific Highway near links (Mona Vale Road and Ryde Road) to the northern beaches, Homebush Bay, the St George district and Sutherland Shire, Gordon provides easy access to a range of locations.
Facilities (Shops, Parks, Restaurants)
Gordon boasts a commercial area along the Pacific Highway and near Gordon station. Perhaps most notable in the shopping precinct is the Gordon Centre which contains a number of specialty stores including a florist, jewellers, café, Harvey Norman, gift store, St George Bank and pharmacy, as well as a large Woolworths. There are also a number of restaurants along the Gordon Pacific Highway stretch, including Indian, Thai, a Steakhouse, Pizza restaurants as well as a number of well-known fast food chains. There are also a number of historic houses in the Gordon area, including Eryldene, which is open to the public, designed by William Hardy Wilson, as well as Tulkiyan, a heritage listed property. Gordon is also home to the widely used Gordon library, which includes a range of facilities for study as well as children’s events.
